BALTIMORE, MD - After wrapping up the final week of the regular season with lots of momentum going into tournament play, Doug Polster (Bernardsville, NJ/Bernards) has been named the PrestoSports/Pride of Maryland Player of the Week, becoming the third Blue Jay to receive this honor thus far this season.
Polster averaged 17.5 points last week in two key conference wins for Johns Hopkins. The Blue Jays put themselves in the driver's seat for the #3 seed in the playoffs with an overtime win at McDaniel on Wednesday. Polster punched up 21 points on 8-of-13 shooting, including seven of Hopkins' 17 points in OT.
On Saturday, Polster scored 14 points, including the game-winning bucket with 9.6 seconds remaining in overtime against Washington. The win clinched the #3 seed and a first round bye for the Blue Jays. For the week, he shot 50.0 percent from the floor, including 35.7 percent from downtown. He was also perfect from the free throw line and had four rebounds, two assists and one steal.
Johns Hopkins will take on Gettysburg this Saturday in the Centennial Semifinals at Ursinus. Tip-off is tentatively scheduled for 3:00 pm or 30 minutes following the conclusion of the first semifinal game.
