LORTON, VA - The Johns Hopkins men's crew team competed at the Mid-Atlantic Collegiate Crew Championships last weekend. Highlighting the regatta was a bronze for the Varsity 8 crew in the grand final.
Bobby Mattina (Wilmington, DE/Tower Hill) and Cameron Ward (Bremerton, VA/Olympic) finished fourth in the grand final of the Men's Pair with a time of 8:03.10. The Novice 8 finished second in their heat and then fourth in the petite final with a time of 6:35.0. Crewing that boat were Tristan Levey (Detroit, MI/Cranbrook Kingswood), Dante Ross, Jose De La Guerra (West Palm Beach, FL/Cardinal Newman), Nick Kreston (Houston, TX/Singapore American School), Daniel Ingram (Scotch Plains, NJ/Scotch Plains-Fanwood), Joshua Crist (Akron, OH/Nordonia), Alexander Baish (Ijamsville, MD/Georgetown Prep), Stephen Hou (Fort Mill, SC/Fort Mill) and Larkin Luo (Elk Grove, CA/Franklin).
The Varsity 8 crew finished third in their heat with a time of 6:30.80. Crewing the boat were Barry Tong (Napa, CA/Vintage), Josiah Drewien (Hailey, ID/The Community School), Chris Vaglia (Pittsburgh, PA/Mt. Lebanon), Wes Fredericks (New Canaan, CT/New Canaan), Chris Viemeister (Lynbrook, NY/Lynbrook), Teddy Drivas (New York, NY/Stuyvesant), Taylor Reese (Lewisberry, PA/Red Land), Lukasz Bugaj (Kalamazoo, MI/Portage Northern) and Pete Ranieri (Haddonfield, NJ/Haddonfield Memorial). The crew then finished third in the grand final with a time of 6:13.40.
Hopkins concludes the season at the Dad Vail Regatta on May 11-12 in Philadelphia, PA.
