LORTON, VA - The Johns Hopkins crew team opened its season at the Occoquan Challenge and then competed at the Occoquan Chase last weekend. Highlighting the Chase for the Blue Jays was a win in the Men's Double.

At the Challenge, the Varsity Eight finished 11th with a time of 16:27.1533, while the Varsity Four claimed 15th, finishing in 18:28.0033.

At the Chase, junior Taylor Reese (Lewisberry, PA/Red Land) claimed sixth place in the Men's Single with a time of 19:57.8767. Senior Chris Vaglia (Pittsburgh, PA/Mt. Lebanon) and freshman Marcus Webb (Moultrie, GA/Maclay School (FL)) won the Men's Double, finishing in 18:52.0500.

The Varsity Four crew took 12th out of 19 with a time of 18:10.4167. Rowing in the Varsity Four were junior Brigitte Warner (Northville, MI/Northville), sophomore Larkin Luo (Elk Grove, CA/Franklin), freshman Michael Lee (Lake Oswego, OR/Lake Oswego), sophomore Alexander Baish (Ijamsville, MD/Georgetown Prep) and sophomore Stephen Hou (Tega Cay, SC/Fort Mill).

In the Varsity Eight, the Blue Jays had two boats compete. The "A" crew finished in sixth out of 16 crews with a time of 14:57.7167, while the "B" crew finished in 13th with a time of 16:07.3680. Rowing in the "A" crew were Warner, freshman Andrew Faulkner (Anchorage, AK/Phillips Academy Andover (MA)), Vaglia, senior Josiah Drewien (Hailey, ID/The Community School), sophomore Josh Crist (Macedonia, OH/Nordonia), sophomore Pete Ranieri (Haddonfield, NJ/Haddonfield Memorial), freshman Christian Honore (Princeton, NJ/Princeton High), Reese and freshman Will Cooper (Pittsburgh, PA/Taylor Allderice). Rowing in the "B" crew, were sophomore Tristan Levey (Detroit, MI/Cranbrook Kingswood), junior Cameron Ward (Bremerton, VA/Olympic), freshmen William Bagdorf (Old Lyme, CT/Lyme-Old Lyme) and Daniel Bagdorf (Old Lyme, CT/Lyme-Old Lyme), sophomore Dante Ross (Napa, CA/Vintage), sophomore Daniel Ingram (Scotch Plains, NJ/Scotch Plains-Fanwood), sophomore Nick Kreston (Houston, TX/Singapore American School), sophomore Jose De La Guerra (West Palm Beach, FL/Cardinal Newman) and Webb.
 

 

Next up for Hopkins is the Head of the Schuykill on October 27 in Philadelphia. The following day, October 28, the Blue Jays will compete in the Tapke Chase in Chestertown, MD.
