Austin Young enters his fifth season with the Blue Jays. Young has guided the Hopkins men's fencing team to a 76-37 record in his four seasons, including the 2005 MACFA Championship.
In his first season in 2003-04, the Blue Jays posted a 22-8 record, finished second in the MACFA Championships and 28th at the NCAA Championships. In his second season, Young led Hopkins to the MACFA Championship and a 15-9 record. The 2005-06 season saw the Blue Jays win 23 matches, while losing just 13. Hopkins finished as the runners-up at the MACFA Championships and 26th at the NCAA Championships. Last season, the Blue Jays went 16-7 with a third place finish at the MACFA Championships and 23rd at the NCAAs.
Young served as an assistant coach at Rutgers from 1997 to 1999, where he helped the Scarlet Knights to ninth and 13th place finishes at the NCAAs. He was also an assistant coach at the Cornell Fencing Camp for three years.
During his career, Young coached five New Jersey High School individual Champions, over 25 state high school all-state team members and two Star Ledger Fencers of the Year.
Young graduated from Rutgers in 1996 with a degree in finance.
