Three foil, two epee, and two sabre fencers will participate on the men's side. Graduate student and Middle Atlantic Collegiate Fencing Association champion Kevin Little (Estes Park, CO/Estes Park), who owns an impressive 84-12 regular season mark, will lead the foil trio. He is joined by sophomore Daniel Frank (Mamaroneck, NY/Mamaroneck) (57-38) and freshman Dan Rosenthal (Chevy Chase, MD/Charles E. Smith Jewish Day) (47-44). Freshman University Athletic Association and MACFA epee champion Matt Bouloubasis (Bethel Park, PA/Bethel Park) (75-15) will also participate along with freshman epee Mark Riso (North Palm Beach, FL/Benjamin) (53-37). Freshman sabre Matthew Barnes (Dunn Loring, VA/George C. Marshall) (62-38) and sophomore Yong Kwon (Bronx, NY/Fordham Prep) round out the men's individual competitors. For the women, UAA and two-time National Intercollegiate Women's Fencing Association sabre champion Sarah Walsh (Fitchburg, MA/St. Bernard's) qualified for the MA/S Regionals. She owns a stellar 75% winning percentage. Walsh's sabre teammate, sophomore Allison Barker (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville South) (62%) and epee sophomore Joy Wu (Walnut, CA/Walnut) (71%) also earned bids. Johns Hopkins Universitys mens fencing team, which carries a 26-6 overall team mark, won the 2001 Middle Atlantic Collegiate Fencing Championships for the 21st time, and finished second at the UAA Championships under head coach Dick Oles, who is in his 42nd season at Homewood. The JHU women's team ended the regular season with a 10-20 under first-year head coach Jenny Rolling. The squad, which retained only three fencers from last year's team in Walsh, Wu, and Barker, showed steady improvement throughout this year's campaign, eventually defeating seven teams late in the season that had beaten JHU earlier in the year. 30
