Entering his second season as an assistant coach is Dave Allan, who joined the Blue Jay staff last season and promptly helped lead Hopkins to the national championship. Allan will serve as JHU's volunteer assistant coach again in 2006 and helps in all areas of practice and game-planning, scouting and recruiting.
Allan is no stranger to Baltimore or lacrosse as he came to Hopkins after a highly successful six-year tenure as the head coach at the nearby Gilman School. Allan guided Gilman to a record of 132-36 (.786) during his time there as the head coach from 1999-2004 and from 1975-79. He also served two stints as an assistant coach there for a total of 16 years (1968-78 and 1994-98). As the head coach at Gilman he led the Greyhounds to three prestigious MIAA "A" Conference titles and was named the USLCA High School Coach-of-the-Year three times (1976, 1978, 2000).
In addition to his ties to the local prep lacrosse community, Allan spent six years as an assistant coach at Loyola College and helped guide the Greyhounds to the 1990 NCAA Championship Game. The `Hounds posted an overall record of 58-19 (.753) during his time with the team and made six NCAA Tournament appearances in his six years.
A 1968 graduate of Randolph-Macon College, Allan and his wife, Bonnie, reside in Owings Mills. They have two sons: Scott, a 1996 graduate of Williams College, and Mike, a 1998 Princeton graduate.
