BALTIMORE, Md. -- Sophomore attachmen Bobby Benson and Adam Doneger both scored on assists from freshman attackman Joe McDermott in the final 3:25 to rally eighth-ranked Johns Hopkins to a 7-6 victory over 16th-ranked Hofstra at Homewood Field Saturday afternoon. The win improves Hopkins' record to 1-1, while the Flying Dutchmen fall to 0-3. The Blue Jays have now won 13 of their last 14 and 19 of their last 21 games at home.

In a game featuring five lead changes and five ties, Hofstra appeared to be in position to pick up its first win of the season when Scott Dooley netted an unassisted goal with 4:41 remaining in the fourth quarter to put the Flying Dutchmen up, 6-5. However, McDermott found Benson on the crease just over a minute later for the equalizer and Doneger blew a shot past Hofstra goalie J.P. Brazel with just 1:32 on the clock on a feed from McDermott as well. Hofstra's final scoring chance in the closing seconds of the game was thwarted by an errant pass that rolled out of bounds as time expired.

Hofstra jumped to a 2-0 lead on back-to-back goals by Doug Shanahan and Joe Barile in the first 10 minutes of the game, but the Blue Jays fought back to take a 3-2 lead. Freshman Conor Ford sandwiched the first two goals of his career around a tally from senior midfielder Conor Denihan over an 11-minute span bridging the first and second quarters to account for Hopkins' three goals. The lead was short-lived however as Hofstra would carry a 4-3 lead into halftime as Kevin Dougherty and Ramar Clash both scored in the final 2:19 of the second quarter .

Denihan and Wedin put the Blue Jays up 5-4 with third-quarter tallies. Denihan's goal, the 50th of his career, came at the 10:45 mark, while Wedin's goal just 3:11 later came just seconds after the Blue Jays had killed off a Hofstra extra-man opportunity. Four minutes after Wedin's goal, Bryan Walker scored an unassisted goal to set the stage for the wild last five minutes.

Ford and Denihan's two goals led the way for Hopkins, which also got the three assists from McDermott. Sophomore Rob Scherr made six saves in goal for the Blue Jays. Hopkins outshot Hofstra, 28-24 and held a 35-33 advantage in ground balls.

Shanahan and Dooley both had one goal and one assist for Hofstra, which also got a strong game from Brazel, who made 14 saves.
