PITTSBURGH, PA - Sophomore Ryan Kim (Seoul, Korea/Georgetown Prep) qualified for his second NCAA Championship event on Sunday as the Johns Hopkins Men's Swim Team won the 2006 ECAC Championship. The Blue Jays were one of just three Division III schools competing at the championships.

After taking over first place in the last event on Saturday night, the Jays never looked back. Freshman Colin Kleinguetl (Kingwood, TX/Kingwood) swam to a first-place finish in the 1650 Free with an NCAA provisional qualification time of 15:57.21. That time was nearly 29 seconds better than his previous best time of 16:26.10.

Next up was Kim in the 200 Back. Although he finished third in the event with a time of 1:50.92, he qualified for the NCAA Division III Championships and extended Hopkins' lead over Yale. Junior Kevin Walsh (Athens, GA/Cedar Shoals) helped maintain the Jays lead over Yale with a sixth place finish in the 100 Free.

Freshman John Kegelman (Yorktown, VA/Tabb) followed that with a first-place finish in the 200 Breast. His time of 2:05.43 was not only a season-best time, but it was also an NCAA provisional qualification time. That win extended Hopkins lead to 39 points.

Finally, in the 400 Free Relay, the Hopkins team of junior Dave Strickland (Houston, TX/Strake Jesuit College Prep), Walsh, senior Zane Hamilton (Chattanooga, TN/McCallie) and sophomore Brad Test (Dresher, PA/Germantown Academy) took second. Their time of 3:05.65 bested their previous time of 3:18.34.

Next up for the Blue Jays are the 2006 NCAA Championships. Carleton College is hosting the event at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center March 16-18. The selections for the championships will take place on March 2.
