Hopkins Men's Tennis Tops Dickinson, 6-1 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Wednesday, March 27, 2001 CONTACT: Carlton White/Assistant SID - 410/516-0638 HOPKINS MEN'S TENNIS TOPS DICKINSON, 6-1 BALTIMORE - Johns Hopkins won five of six singles matches and earned the doubles point to post a 6-1 win over Dickinson in Centennial Conference men's tennis action on Tuesday afternoon at the JHU Tennis Courts. The Blue Jays' record improves to 6-5 overall and 3-0 in CC play, while the Red Devils open the 2001 season with an 0-2 mark overall and in conference action. Hopkins claimed the doubles point with wins at No. 1, No. 2, and No. 3. Leading 1-0, JHU pounded straight set victories in five singles matches to cruise to victory. Senior captain Dan Kreeger (Miami Beach, FL/Ransom Everglades) was victorious at No. 4 singles, 6-0, 6-1. Junior Ashish Lall (Buffalo, NY/Nichols) garnered a 6-2, 6-0 win at #6 singles, while senior Andrew Chu (Yorktown Heights, NY/Yorktown) recorded a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 3. Junior Sion Roy (Chandler, AZ/Brophy College Prep) clinched the match for Hopkins with his 6-2, 6-1 victory at #5. JHU sophomore Kevin Alford (O'Fallon, IL/O'Fallon Township) also posted a victory at No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-2. Freshman Grant Roch (Cedarburg, WI/Cedarburg) teamed with Roy for an 8-2 win at No. 3 doubles. The Blue Jays are home again on Thursday when they host Centennial Conference foe Haverford at 3:00 p.m.
