Washington College Blanks Johns Hopkins, 7-0 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Wednesday, April 11, 2001 WASHINGTON COLLEGE BLANKS HOPKINS, 7-0 CHESTERTOWN, Md. - In a battle of unbeaten Centennial Conference foes, eight-time defending CC champion Washington College blanked Johns Hopkins, 7-0, in men's tennis action on Tuesday afternoon at the WC Tennis Courts. The victory, which was the Shoremen's 61st straight conference win, improved the team's record to 13-1 overall and 5-0 in conference play. The Blue Jays' win streak ends at three games as the squad falls to 8-6 overall (5-1 CC). Although taking their opponents to three sets, seniors Andrew Chu (Yorktown Heights, NY/Yorktown) and Dan Kreeger (Miami Beach, FL/Ransom Everglades) saw their undefeated conference marks come to a close with losses at No. 3 and No. 5 singles, respectively. Chu lost the first set, but rallied to win the second to force the tie-break, which he lost 10-5. Kreeger was just as impressive. After getting shut out in the first set, Kreeger bounced back with a 6-2 win in the second to force the tie-break. He played valiantly, but succumbed to a 10-8 margin. Junior Ashish Lall's (Buffalo, NY/Nichols) unbeaten conference mark also fell with a 6-4, 7-6(6) loss at No. 6 singles. JHU's men's tennis will be in action again on Thursday versus Centennial foe Franklin & Marshall at 3:30 p.m.
