Norman Ayen returns for his fourth season on the track and field staff for the 2007-08 season. He joined coach Van Allen's staff in 2004 and handles sprinters, relays, hurdles, pole vault and the jumpers for the Blue Jays. Prior to coming to Johns Hopkins, Ayen was the head coach for the track and field and cross-country teams at Cambridge-Isanti High School in Cambridge, Minnesota from 1973-2003. There, he was responsible for all coaching and administrative aspects of the teams. Ayen also served as the head track and field coach and head basketball coach at Eagle Bend High School from 1971-73. During his coaching days in Minnesota, Ayen also served as an English teacher at both schools. During his collegiate time at the University of Minnesota - Mankato, Ayen was an NCAA Division II qualifer in the 400-meter hurdles and also competed in several relays. He holds a USA Track and Field Level I coaching certificate.
