Hopkins Competes at Lafayette-Rider Games

NEW YORK, NY - The Johns Hopkins men's track and field team had a strong showing at the Lafayette-Rider Games on Friday afternoon. The meet featured top teams from the Mid-Atlantic region from several divisions. James Bronson broke the school record in the 1,000-meters to lead the Blue Jays.
Bronson crossed the line in 2:35.56 to finish 12th and qualified for ECAC's in the process. Nate Sotuyo was the Blue Jays' top finisher in the 800-meters. He finished the race in 1:58:14 which is an ECAC qualifying time. Jason Hortiatis ran a 1:58.83 to take 32nd place and a personal best in the process. Gordon Mack (1:59.28) and Elliot Wehner (2:00.20) took 35th and 39th place respectively as each ran a season best in the event.
Tristan Thomas had a good day for the Blue Jays, qualifying for ECAC's in both the 60-meter dash and the 200-meter dash. Thomas ran a 7.05 in the 60-meter dash to take eighth place. In the 200-meter dash, his time of 22.65 was 18th best. Also in the 200-meters, Chris Cottrell ran a 23.15 to finish 35th and just miss an ECAC qualifying itme.
Hopkins placed two runners in the top ten in the 3,000-meters and had three runners qualify for ECAC's in the event. Graham Belton was ninth with a season best 8:49.64 while David Sigmon was tenth also running a season best of 8:52.49. Patrick Brandon rounded out the group with a 8:55.38 to place 18th.
The 4x400 relay team took 13th place with a time of 3:29.89. The team was composed of Pierre Hage, Christo Tait, Mack and James Walker. The 4x800 relay team of Sotuyo, Bronson, Hortiatis and Wehner finished in 8:04.09 to take sixth.
Hopkins returns to the track on Friday, February 22 at the Haverford Keough Invitational.
