Hopkins in Second After Day One of Indoor Track and Field Championships

COLLEGEVILLE, PA - The Johns Hopkins men's track and field team finished day one of the Centennial Conference Indoor Track and Field Championship in second place. Hopkins had several school records fall in the process and was 18.5 points out of first after six events.
Haverford held the lead after day one with 65.50 points with Hopkins in second with 47 points. Dickinson rounded out the top three with 33 points.
Hopkins had a strong showing in the pole vault. Adam Waddell had a vault of 15' to break the school record he set earlier this season. Matt Trachtenberg finished third in the event with a personal best of 14'6". The Blue Jays continued their strong showing in the field events as Chris Cottrell finished third in the long jump. He finished with a final jump of 6.41m while Waddell took fourth place after a jump of 6.38m. Both long jumpers recorded a new personal best.
Tristan Thomas ran the fastest time of the day in the 55 meter dash with a time of 6.51 to advance to tomorrow's finals. Thomas set a new school record in the process. Cottrell will also join Thomas in the 55-meter dash finals after running the third fastest time in the preliminaries of 6.65.
Patrick Brandon took sixth place in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 15:24.83. In the one-mile run it was Graham Belton taking sixth place with a time of 4:26.19.
The Blue Jays set a new school record in the 4x200 relay. The team of Cottrell, Thomas, James Walker and Pierre Hage posted a 1:32.42 to take second place. The distance medley relay team also took second place in their event. The team of James Bronson, Gordon Mack, Nate Sotuyo and Belton ran a 10:28.28.
The Blue Jays will look to add to their success of day one when the championship concludes on Sunday, March 3.
