Hopkins Competes at Towson Invitatonal

TOWSON, MD - The Johns Hopkins men's track and field team competed at the Towson Invitational over the weekend to open its 2008 outdoor season. Senior Tristan Thomas who had a strong showing in the sprints led the Blue Jays on the day.
Thomas had a strong day finishing first in both the 100 and 200-meter dash. He ran a personal best of 11.02 in the preliminaries and then followed that up with an 11.11 in the finals to take the top spot. In the 200-meters, Thomas ran a 22.55 to take the top spot in that event.
Teammate Chris Cottrell placed sixth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.52 and eighth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.80. Braham Kumar captured sixth place in the 200-meter dash, completing the race in 23.66. Sophomore Gordon Mack placed third in the 400-meter dash, running 50.91. Kumar also took sixth in this event, running a 54.05.
Freshman Brandon Hahn took eighth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:03.59. Teammate Michael Yuan place second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:16.43 while freshman Andrew Barnett took fourth in the event with a time of 11:08.11.
Junior Dan Pike placed third in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 34:22.19 while fellow junior Drew Lefkof clocked in at 35:25.62 to take sixth place.
In the field events, junior Peter Li took fourth in the shot put with a throw of 14.19m. Sophomore Jonathan Walker was eighth in the javelin throw with a toss of 46.42m. Junior Matt Trachtenberg placed second in the high jump with a leap of 1.70m. Trachtenberg also took second in the pole vault with a vault of 4.08m in the finals.
The Blue Jays will return to action on March 28 and 29 at the Raleigh Relays and the Terrapin Invitational. - 30 - |
