BALTIMORE, MD - Three members of the Johns Hopkins women's crew team were named scholar-athletes by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association this week. Senior captain Laura DeMare (West Bloomfield, MI/West Bloomfield) and sophomores Allison Hoy (East Amherst, NY/Williamsville North) and Rebecca Williamson (Burlington, Ontario/Hillfield Strathallan) all earned the honor from the CRCA. They are the first from Hopkins to earn the honor since Renee Egusa and Angela Ko in 2005.
To be named a CRCA Scholar-Athlete, a student must have a 3.5 cumulative GPA or higher, be at least a sophomore, and have rowed in her school's varsity boat for a minimum of 75% of the spring races.
DeMare is majoring in molecular & cellular biology and has a GPA of 3.67. Hoy boasts a 3.80 GPA in neuroscience. Williamson is also a neuroscience major with a 3.74 GPA.
