JOHNS HOPKINS OUTLASTS AMERICAN, 15-8, IN WOMEN'S LACROSSE

Larrimore, Pearce net four goals each.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Johns Hopkins, ranked 17th nationally, scored four unanswered goals to start the second-half and defeated American, 15-8, for the Blue Jays first victory of the season on Wednesday afternoon at AU's Reeves Field. Junior attacker Jamie Larrimore (Chestertown, MD/Kent County) and freshman midfielder Heidi Pearce (Chestertown, MD/St. Andrew's) each netted four goals, and two scores apiece in the second stanza, as Hopkins improved to 1-1 overall in 2001. The Eagles also evened their record to 1-1.

JHU held a slim 7-6 advantage at halftime as the two teams practically traded goals in the first half. However, the Blue Jays opened with four tallies in the first eight minutes of the second stanza to stake an 11-6 advantage over the Eagles. Hopkins would never relinquish the lead, and held the Eagles to two free position goals in the frame.

Blue Jays' junior attacker Erin Wellner (East Williston, NY/Sacred Heart Academy) recorded three goals and one assist in the contest. Freshman attacker Marlena Wittelsberger (Phoenix, MD/Dulaney) notched one goal and one assist. Junior midfielder Erinn Dennis (Wilton, NY/Saratoga Springs) and sophomore attackers Marisa Baldwin (Annapolis, MD/Notre Dame Prep) and Liz Holland (Catonsville, MD/Mt. de Sales Academy) each registered one goal. Freshman midfielder Kate Barcomb (Middlebury, VT/Middlebury) also added an assist. AU's Bridget McGeady collected four goals while the Eagles also got a goal and two assists from Ashley Flanigan and two goals from Nadia Harmsen.

Hopkins goalkeeper Jen McDonald (Garden City, NY/Garden City) made 11 saves. Eagles' goalie Vicki Miller notched 12 saves and allowed 12 goals in 51 minutes. Reserve AU goalie Claire Hoeckel allowed three JHU goals in nine minutes.

Johns Hopkins next hosts #12 William & Mary on Friday at 4:00 p.m.
