No. 14 Johns Hopkins Blasts Past Mount St. Mary's, 20-1 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Wednesday, March 14, 2001 NO. 14 JOHNS HOPKINS BLASTS PAST MOUNT ST. MARY'S, 20-1 BALTIMORE -- Ten different players scored for 14th-ranked Johns Hopkins as its women's lacrosse team won its second straight contest in decisive fashion, handing Mount St. Mary's a 20-1 defeat on Wednesday evening at Homewood Field. Junior attacker Erin Wellner (East Williston, NY/Sacred Heart Academy) tallied a season-high five goals and one assist in the first half, while junior attacker Jamie Larrimore (Chestertown, MD/Kent County) added four markers for the game. The 20 goals scored is the most for the Blue Jays this season as they improve to 3-2 overall, while the Mountaineers lose for the fourth straight time and fall to 1-4. JHU recorded 17 consecutive goals before the Mountaineers' Erin Gargan (Fr., Millersville, MD/Mount de Sales) prevented the shutout with a free position score at 10:42 in the second half. The consecutive goals scoring streak is the second longest in a game for Hopkins, eclisping the old second-place mark of 14 straight set in the Blue Jays' game on Sunday against Lehigh. Three of Hopkins' goals were from the free position as sophomore attackers Meghan Burnett (Auburn, NY/Auburn) and Marisa Baldwin (Annapolis, MD/Notre Dame Prep) and junior midfielder Christy Peterson (Fallston, MD/Fallston), who totaled three goals in the contest, found the back of the net. Each player also picked up one assist. Blue Jay goals also came from freshman midfielder Heidi Pearce (Chestertown, MD/St. Andrew's), who registered two scores, junior midfielder Erinn Dennis (Wilton, NY/Saratoga Springs) (1), freshman midfielders Kate Barcomb (Middlebury, VT/Middlebury) and Katie Stevenson (Chestertown, MD/Kent County), who each had one marker, and freshman attacker Marlena Wittelsberger (Phoenix, MD/Dulaney) (1). The Blue Jays' defensive unit of senior Lauren Carney (Wilmington, DE/Tatnall), junior Caroline Miller (Alexandria, VA/St. Stephen's & St. Agnes), sophomore Anne Clark (Bel Air, MD/Bel Air), and junior tri-captain Shanu Kohli (Radnor, PA/Radnor) limited the Mountaineers to nine total shots on goal and just three in the first half. Hopkins sophomore goalkeeper Jen McDonald (Garden City, NY/Garden City) made two saves and allowed one goal in 50 minutes. Senior reserve goalie Kimberly DiConza (Manhasset, NY/Manhasset) also posted two saves in 10 minutes.
