Wellner Posts Four Goals As Hopkins Topples Richmond, 15-4 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Saturday, March 31, 2001 WELLNER POSTS FOUR GOALS AS HOPKINS TOPPLES RICHMOND, 15-4 BALTIMORE - Junior attacker Erin Wellner (East Williston, NY/Sacred Heart Academy) recorded four goals and two assists for #18 Johns Hopkins as the host Blue Jays rolled to a 15-4 decision over Richmond in women's lacrosse action on Saturday at Homewood Field. JHU junior attacker Jamie Larrimore (Chestertown, MD/Kent County) totaled three goals and an assist, while freshman midfielder Heidi Pearce (Chestertown, MD/St. Andrew's) also registered a hat trick in the victory. The Blue Jays improve to 6-3 overall, while the Spiders lose their seventh straight contest and fall to 0-7. Richmond attacker Katie Dolan netted the first score of the game at 29:02, giving the Spiders a 1-0 lead. Hopkins took over from there, posting six consecutive goals to stake a 6-1 advantage with 1:36 remaining. Junior midfielder Christy Peterson (Fallston, MD/Fallston) opened the spurt at 23:32. Wellner tossed in three markers during the run and sophomore attacker Meghan Burnett (Auburn, NY/Auburn) tallied two scores back-to-back. Both teams traded goals in the final minute for a 7-2 JHU lead at halftime. Junior midfielder Erinn Dennis (Wilton, NY/Sarasota Springs) opened the second period with a free position marker at 25:16. The Spiders' Carrie Aitken, who had two goals in the game, netted her first marker 45 seconds later for an 8-3 Hopkins edge. The Blue Jays once again went on a scoring run, notching six straight goals en route to a 14-3 margin. JHU freshman midfielder Katie Stevenson (Chestertown, MD/Kent County) concluded the spurt with her tally at 2:04. Once again, the teams traded goals in the final minute, giving Hopkins a 15-4 victory. JHU's defensive unit of senior Lauren Carney (Wilmington, DE/Tatnall), junior Caroline Miller (Alexandria, VA/St. Stephen's & St. Agnes), junior Shanu Kohli (Radnor, PA/Radnor), and senior Candice Smith (Syracuse, NY/Phillips Exeter Academy) has now limited five opponents to less than 10 goals this season. JHU sophomore goalkeeper Jen McDonald (Garden City, NY/Garden City) made nine saves and allowed four goals, while UR goalie Kelly Johnson recorded 12 saves and allowed 15 goals. Johns Hopkins, ranked No. 18 nationally, is in action again on Sunday, April 8, when it hosts #19 Hofstra, beginning at 1:00 p.m.
