No. 1 Maryland Overwhelms No. 19 Hopkins, 24-5 COLLEGE PARK, Md.- Maryland, ranked No. 1 in the nation, tallied 16 consecutive second half goals en route to a 24-5 win over 19th-ranked Johns Hopkins in womens lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon at Byrd Stadium. Senior Jen Adams notched a career-high and school record 12 points off the strength of eight goals and four assists to lead the Terrapins (13-0). Freshman Heidi Pearce (Chestertown, MD/St. Andrews) paced the Blue Jays (6-5) with two goals. Maryland jumped out to a 4-0 lead at 18:34 in the first period, but JHUs Pearce and junior attacker Jamie Larrimore (Chestertown, MD/Kent County) trimmed the lead to 4-2 with back-to-back goals. Hopkins junior attacker Erin Wellner (East Williston, NY/Sacred Heart Academy) assisted on Pearces score. After the Terps made it 5-2, JHU recorded two more consecutive markers as Pearce and Wellner found the back of the net at 6:37 for a 5-4 Maryland advantage. UMCP would score three of the next four goals, its last with 31 seconds left in the frame, to stake an 8-5 margin at halftime. Sophomore attacker Meghan Burnett (Auburn, NY/Auburn) registered Hopkins final tally of the half. The Blue Jays never had many scoring opportunities in the second frame as the Terrapins commanded 11 of 14 draw controls and limited JHU to just five shots.
