Complete Release in PDF Format
At a Glance: Johns Hopkins enters the 2008 American Lacrosse Conference Tournament as the #3 seed. The Blue Jays will take on the #2 seed Vanderbilt Commodores in the second semifinal Saturday at Northwestern. Hopkins is coming off back-to-back wins. Though Vanderbilt has won five straight coming into this weekend, it has been idle since April 20. Last Time Out: Hopkins held on for a 13-12 win over Ohio State on Monday to secure the #3 seed in this weekend's ALC Tournament. Senior Kirby Houck and sophomore Sam Schrum tallied hat tricks to lead the attack. Against Northwestern: Johns Hopkins won the first two meetings between the Blue Jays and the Wildcats. However, it has been all Northwestern since then as the Wildcats have won six straight in the series. The two last met on April 18 in Evanston. Hopkins led through much of the game, but a six-goal spurt by Northwestern midway through the second half turned the tide as the Wildcats won 14-12. Against Ohio State: The first five meetings between Johns Hopkins and Ohio State were won by the home team. That all changed last season when the visiting Blue Jays defeated the Buckeyes 15-14 on a last second goal by Kirby Houck. Hopkins has now won three straight in the series after a 13-12 win over Ohio State on Monday afternoon. The Blue Jays now lead the all-times series 5-2. Against Penn State: Johns Hopkins and Penn State have met seven times since the 2002 season with the Nittany Lions holding the edge in the series 5-2. Though the Blue Jays have won the last two meetings. Hopkins came from behind to win on Saturday for JHU's first ever win in State College. Against Vanderbilt: Johns Hopkins leads the all-time series with Vanderbilt, 5-3. The Commodores won the first ever meeting back in 2002, the Blue Jays then rattled off four straight in the series. Last season, Vanderbilt won the regular season meeting in Nashville in overtime. A month later, in the inaugural ALC Tournament in Baltimore, Hopkins got revenge with a 12-10 win. Vanderbilt got the edge earlier this season, winning 11-10 in overtime at Homewood Field. Helpers: Eleven different Blue Jays have tallied an assist so far this season, with sophomore Brett Bathras leading the way with a career-high 17 assists. Sophomore Danielle Ensley ranks second with seven assists, also a career-high. Bathras now has 22 career assists, tied for 11th in school Division I history. Youth Serves: So far this season, sophomores and freshmen have been doing the majority of the scoring for the Blue Jays. The two classes have scored 67 of the Blue Jays last 124 goals (54.0 percent). On the season, the classes of 2010 and 2011 have contributed 92 of the team's 173 goals or 53.2 percent of the scoring. Century Club: The Johns Hopkins women's lacrosse 100-point club has gotten two more members this season - seniors Lauren Schwarzmann and Kadie Stamper. Stamper scored three goals in the Jays win over UMBC on April 9. Her second goal of the night was the 100th point of her career. Schwarzmann totaled five points in Hopkins win over #19 Denver on March 30, scoring four goals and dishing one assist. Her free position goal, her fourth of the game gave her 100 career points.
