AUGUSTINE, FL - The #14 Johns Hopkins women's tennis team won its fourth straight match by edging Flagler 5-4 on Tuesday in the final match of its spring trip. The Blue Jays are now 4-0 overall while the Saints fall to 7-8 on the season.

The Saints won two of the three doubles matches to take a 2-1 lead in the match. Sophomore Ellen Berlinghof (Fort Washington, PA/Upper Dublin) and freshman Yasmine Elamir (Saddle River, NJ/Heritage Academy (SC)) dropped an 8-1 decision at first doubles to Chelsi de Cuba and Roxane Alt. Junior Brittany Matava (Denver, CO/Littleton) and sophomore Anita Bhamidipati (Egg Harbor Township, NJ/Egg Harbor Township), the sixth ranked pair in the Atlantic South, won 8-5 over Fernanda Ospina and Chelsea Taylor at second. At third doubles, freshmen Abby Dwyer (Stuart, FL/Jensen Beach) and Julia Guarino (Bradenton, FL/Saint Stephen's Episcopal) lost 8-3 to Gabriela Ospina and Deon Miller.

Hopkins rebounded in singles competition, winning four of the six matches to take match 5-4. Matava won 6-2, 6-4 at first, beating Cuba. At second, Bhamidipati, the ninth ranked singles player in the region, defeated Fernanda Ospina 6-1, 6-3. Dwyer improved to 8-0 on the season with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Taylor. Elamir won a three-set match at fourth, beating Alt for her fourth straight win.

Miller defeated sophomore Amanda Schubert (Richmond, VA/Mills E. Godwin) in three sets at fifth. And Chelsea Maratta also won in three sets, beating Berlinghof at sixth.
 

 

Hopkins returns to action on Friday, March 21 when Muhlenberg visits Baltimore. The Centennial Conference match is set to begin at 1:00 pm.
