Hopkins Places Second at Centennial Conference Indoor Track and Field Championship

COLLEGEVILLE, PA - The Johns Hopkins women's track and field team placed second at the Centennial Conference Indoor Track and Field Championship this weekend. The Blue Jays tied their highest ever finish in the meet.
Haverford won the meet, finishing with 166 points. Hopkins used a strong showing in the 3,000-meter run to clinch second place, finishing with 108.50 points. Dickinson was third with 91 points.
The Blue Jays went into the 3,000-meter run in a tight battle with the Red Devils for second place. Rachel Hogen claimed first place in the event with a time of 10.27.97. Teammate Emma Hiza took third in the race with a time of 10:39.23. Hiza qualified for ECAC's with her strong time after being the 13th seed entering the finals.
Freshman Anita Mikkilineni continued her strong performance on the weekend with a 9.14 in the 55-meter hurdles. She placed fourth in that event. Jordan Ireton had a strong day for the Blue Jays placing fourth in both the 200-meter and 400-meter runs. In the 400-meters she posted a time of 1:00.14 and in the 200-meters a time of 26.71.
Paula Osborn was second in the 55-meter dash with a time of 7.55. Kit Harris took sixth in the 800-meter run, completing the course in 2:25.25.
The 4x400 relay team took second in its race. The relay team was composed of Mikkilineni, Ireton, Osborn and Martina Dodd with a time of 4:09.97. That time in the 4x400 was a new school record, one of five set by either the womens or men's team over the weekend.
Becky Lossing set a new school record in the high jump with a final leap of 1.60m. She also took first place in that event.
Hopkins will return to action at the ECAC Indoor Championships on March 7.
