GRANTHAM, PA - The Johns Hopkins track and field team sent three athletes to compete at the Messiah Multi-Event Meet. Kathy Horn finished fifth in the heptathlon.

In the heptathlon, Horn placed fifth out of 15 competitors as she finished with 3,360 points. On day one she had a 1.39m in the high jump and a 8.36m in the shot put. Horn also ran a 29.17 in the 200-meter dash. On day two she posted a 31.40m in the javelin throw and a time of 2:38.08 in the 800-meter run.

Adam Waddell finished with 6,049 points to claim third place among 11 athletes competing in the decathlon. Waddell is the first Hopkins' athlete to break 6,000 points in the decathlon. In addition to reaching the NCAA Championship Provisional Qualifying Mark, he also set the school record in the event.

Fellow junior Devin McDermott finished eighth in the event after tallying 4,606 in the two day event.

Waddell, competing in the decathlon for the first time ever, did not finish lower then fourth in any of his event on day one. He placed third in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.56 and went from there. Waddell took second in the high jump with a 6.28m and second in the shot put at 11.31m. On day two, he had a 4.35m in the pole vault and a 17.67 in the 110-hurdles.

McDermott, had a 5.91 in the long jump and a 11.08m in the shot put on day one. On day two in the javelin throw he had a 38.15 in the javelin throw and ran a 5:13.00 in the 1,500-meters.

The Blue Jays will be back in action on Friday, April 18 at the Widener Invitational.
