PITTSBURGH, PA - The Johns Hopkins volleyball team dropped a hard fought 3-2 decision to Carnegie Mellon in the ECAC South Championship match on Sunday. The Blue Jays (25-6) end the season with the third most wins in school history.

Carnegie Mellon jumped out to the early lead in the match, taking game one by a score of 30-23. Hopkins claimed game two 30-21 before the Tartans took game three 30-22. The Blue Jays forced a fifth game with a 30-22 victory in game four. Carnegie Mellon clinched the title with a 15-13 win in game five.

Hopkins got strong performances from several players in the match. Playing in her final match for the Blue Jays, senior Natalia Fijalkowski (Windsor, CA/Windsor) posted 16 kills and 20 digs. Junior Kim Jackanich (Pacifica, CA/St. Ignatius College Prep) contributed 11 kills and 16 digs while sophomore Allison Cappelaere (Ellicott City, MD/Centennial) had 13 kills and 19 digs. Sophomore Alex Zenoff (San Francisco, CA/San Francisco University HS) led the team with 18 kills while sophomore Katie Buckheit (Fairfax, VA/Paul VI Catholic) contributed a career-high 31 digs in the match.

Carnegie Mellon was led by tournament MVP Jess Brackin who posted 14 kills while Cameron Griffin contributed 25 digs. Kate Stepp had nine kills and nine digs while Samantha Carter dished out 57 assists.
 

 

Hopkins graduates Fijalkowski but returns the rest of the starting lineup next season in hopes of claiming the Centennial Conference title.
